David Hum & Co, Manchester.

This is a print I purchased a while ago, I recognised it as being of Manchester and that at the top right is a photographers studio. David Hum & Co of 90, Newgate Street, London and 41 Oxford Street, Manchester. Photographer James Brown also operated out of 41 Oxford Street at some time.

Saint Peters Church can be seen in the distance and that was demolished in 1907 so the image is prior to this….

Heres how it looks now…

I’ve got an idea in my head to start some research into Victorian daylight photographic studios in Manchester, where they were and if any still remain.

Of course there were a large number of Photographers operating all over the Manchester area so I think I’ll concentrate on the city centre.

There is some online info about Manchester photographer Josiah T Chapman but not much else.  I do remember seeing some books relating specifically to Manchester Photographers at the Central Library when working there with Gwen, one of the photographers at John Rylands Library, last year. Time to get me a library card… is there such a thing anymore?

Anyone have any info please let me know.
