Storage & Display – A Frame

I bought this vintage wooden frame a few weeks ago thinking it a little unusual and maybe the answer to storing and displaying plates for clients and for personal work.

OldFrame

I offered up the challenge to replicate it to fellow photographer and friend Mark Voce.  Now,  Mark, not only being a skilled photographer is also an excellent self taught woodworker. He makes fantastic wet plate cameras and has helped numerous photographers in adapting their cameras by making missing parts.

Well, Mark sent me this little video last night. I knew he could do this, no problem.

NewFrame

This is a prototype in unfinished mahogany for quarter plate. I think it looks great and I’m now trying to convince Mark that its worthwhile making these in batches as I’m sure they would sell.  And we think they would be suitable for maybe up to whole plate.
Thanks Mark, your a talent we’re lucky to have locally.
