Shawn Stephen is a talented artist from India, who I have met on a number of occasions. Today he came to the studio for an introduction to wet plate collodion workshop.
We started off with some small quarter plate tintype still life shots, working up to half plate size. He soon got the hang of that.
A lovely half plate tintype.
We then moved on to whole plate tintype portraits.
To be fair I did take the lens cap off for this one…
Followed by shellac varnishing… just look at that concentration.
… and some waxing. You might as well have cover all angles with wet plate collodion.
Shawn made it look way too easy. I can’t wait to see what he does with his new skills when he gets back to India.
