I’ve just got back from visiting my family in South Wales, on the wall there hangs this photograph.
I can vaguely remember it being taken, I must have been about 10 years old at the time (I’m the angelic looking one with a big smile). I do remember being told not to smile and to look serious, obviously I didn’t do as well as my miserable brothers…..
It was one of those shops that got you to dress up in period clothing and get you family portrait taken, not sure if it was on one of the Piers or the seafront. There must be thousands of households with these repro images knocking around and I quick online search shows this sort of business is still up and running, and why not.
Its been hanging in its frame for 30 years, and I forget its there most of the time, its probably the only formal(?) image of my immediate family together. This visit I took it down and gave it a quick scan.
I think I’ll try to re-create next time I visit, that might be interesting…
This was taken in a little shop inside Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
There is a similar shop at St.Fagan’s Welsh Folk Museum still taking images like this.
Blimey my Mum reads my blog????
Yes but is the St. Fagans shop now digital…..I’ll bet it is.
