A couple of weeks ago I took a drive over to Shipley to pick up a load of Bowens Quadmatic flash kit from a photographer who had retired decades ago but still rented studio space. More about that later.
I just about fitted all of this in my van….

There are 19 mixed heads @1000 -3000 w/s.
Eleven power packs all @1.5K (two are spares and repair)
And crates full of modifiers, softboxes, barn doors, cables and slaves.
I’m now thinking… what on earth was I thinking!?
Also having had a nice van drive through Shipley I later find out Bradford has a Clean Air Zone in place. (Not well sign posted) and a fine for £120 arrived though the post. £60 if paid quickly plus the original £9 CAZ fee. 🙁
Anyway, back to the chaps studio space.

He rents about 3000 square foot for about £50 a month through a not for profit charitable organisation called SKIPPKO , and I though Spinner Mill was reasonable, think I might have to ask for a rent discount.

So, all this Bowens kit, I’m probably not going to use it. Anyone want some? I can do a head and powerpack with a modifier of your choice for £50 pick up only. First come first served.
are these strong enough for tintype?
Hi in combination with each other yes.
Strobed are weird with wet plate. I need about 4000J to get a decent exposure at f4 and a comfortable distance from the sitter. I have seen people use a lot less. Plus others who combine ambient light with a pop of flash.
Years ago someone brought their flash kit to the studio and it ammounted to 16KJ for one exposure, it was ancient kit though so how accurate the output was, who knows.
