The Freemans

I’ve just got back from South Wales after having had a great time at my good friend, Andy, 40th Birthday surprise bash. Stayed at a lovely place, Llanerch vineyard, yes who’d have thought…a vineyard in Wales. Great location, food, wine and company.

I was planning on driving back up North through Wales and shooting some plates on the way today but as usual the weather (and a head cold) have got the better of me. Yesterday though Andy had asked me if I’d shoot a couple of plates as he was interested in the process and what I’ve been getting up to. So back in the Rhondda Valleys with rain threatening from the sky, we made a couple of quick plates. Well, I say quick, they might disagree…… having now seen the process.

First the test plate, 5×7 clear glass ambrotype, f4.5 for 4 seconds. No surprise the resultant ghostly heads of children.

Second plate, 5×7 tintype, changing light rain approaching, same exposure but could have done with longer but I didn’t want to push my luck with the girls staying too still. Even after all the prompting/encouragement from their Dad.

Okay lets see if the adults can do any better….. 5×7 tintype.

And heres a crop. Well done Andy, surprising you could sit so still with that hangover.
