Van Dyke Brown prints

I’ve not made any VDBs for a few years, so this morning I mixed up a batch.

First test print at 4 minutes with the UV unit was a bit heavy. Standard VDB mix, plain water wash, then a weak Hypam fixer, followed by a really good wash.

The rest are 8×12 inch pieces of paper.

And if you aren’t a fan of the chocolate brown look then a dilute selenium toner, a couple ml to a litre of water, will do the job as seen in the two prints on the left above.

I’ll see how these look when they dry down.

Just printed on some Daler Rowney Fine Grain – Cartridge paper that I had in one of the plan chests.

I don’t keep many of my plates, but the ones I do keep tend to be the larger 12×15 inch collodion clear glass plates as they are stored in the carry cases made by Mark Voce.

These are just a few from the various UK Wet Plate weekends over the years. This year’s is again at Guys Cliff House near Warwick.

Get in touch with Ray Spence if you fancy coming along on the 8th – 10th August.
