This Kowa Super 66<\/a> was on Ebay for a silly price with free shipping, so I left a rum infused opening bid, expecting to be outbid, I didn’t think anything else of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oops. To be honest, it was a bit of a gamble just for the fairly rare 40mm f4 lens. It was described as not working and grubby. The seller was not wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n

The kit consists of the Super 66 body, three film cartridges, an 80mm and 40mm lens, and a metered chimney viewfinder.<\/p>\n\n\n

Every part has issues. The main body is dusty, and the winding crank is not working, as is often the case with these cameras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can do with a really good clean, plus the light seals need replacing.<\/p>\n\n\n

The three film cartridges look in okay condition apart from the light seals.<\/p>\n\n\n

The metered chimney view finder is missing its diopter. I wonder if one will fit from a similar viewfinder?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The battery compartment is clean, so will see if it powers up and works.<\/p>\n\n\n

Here’s the kit alongside my Kowa Six which is in very good condition. The main reason for gambling on this kit is for that 40mm f4 lens. They sell for \u00a3500-600 usually.<\/p>\n\n\n

I’ll have a go at dismantling and cleaning the lenses. That should be straightforward enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main body is going to need someone else to take a look at it. I wonder if there’s anyone in the UK who repairs and services these cameras?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Either way, I could just re list each part on Ebay and easily get my money back with a small profit and still keep the 40mm lens. So well worth the small gamble.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
