This week I have been dealing with he fall out of Ebay buying in the early hours, due to a lack of sleep with a bad chest infection.

Last week was that lovely 11×14 inch contact printing frame<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week two 5×4 cameras have arrived. To be fair I have been looking for a folding compact 5×4 camera instead of the Sinar rail cameras. It’s just the prices all seem a little high nowadays. That would explain these two Ebay purchases. No idea why there are two, as I only really need one… honest.

First up and the cheapest, is an Intrepid<\/a> Mark II (I think) camera. These are UK manufactured, and mostly made of birch plywood. It is very lightweight and compact. My version also comes with an Intrepid pinhole lens so an added bonus. I’ll have to give it a go.

Secondly is this amazing Gandolfi 5×4 camera. Now Gandolfi is a well known name of quality camera manufacturers that were based in London. Prices for these cameras get a little too silly for me to even consider buying one. So I was a little apprehensive when I saw this on my Purchases list on Ebay. For the price I paid there must have been something wrong with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turns out there was nothing to be worried about. There is one missing bit of brass that assists pulling back the ground glass screen for plate holder insertion but that’s about it. Its in very good condition apart from a split in the wooden base, which is quite common in these type of cameras, from the tripod screw being over tightened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only thing I can see that might be an issue it the very small lens opening on the front standard. I’ll knock up some 3D printed lens boards and see what I can fit in there. The Intrepid lens board is much larger so less of a concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a considerable size difference when viewed side by side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can’t see much more in my Ebay purchases to be concerned about, although I did get lucky with these two cameras. I best check my Amazon account lol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
