After recent exposures of up to 40 seconds with Gopal it was reassuring to see we were getting 5-10 seconds for a change.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the plates more closely after scanning, any blurred areas of Kirsteens face are down to me and not any movement on her part as I first thought.<br \/>\nShooting wide open to make the most of the light has its downsides and that limited depth of field at f4 can be a right plate killer.<br \/>\nAlso these <em>older<\/em> lenses have great detail fall off at the edges of the image circle, you think your in focus, you are in focus, its just the glass is a little soft when it gets to the edges&#8230;will keep an eye on that in future.<\/p>\n<p>Started with two clear glass quarter plate ambrotypes&#8230;(scans of varnished plates)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey01.jpg\" alt=\"KAubrey01\" title=\"KAubrey01\" width=\"388\" height=\"504\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey01.jpg 388w, https:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey01-230x300.jpg 230w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey02.jpg\" alt=\"KAubrey02\" title=\"KAubrey02\" width=\"385\" height=\"504\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey02.jpg 385w, https:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey02-229x300.jpg 229w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 385px) 100vw, 385px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then a quarter plate tintype. What I&#8217;ve noticed on some tins are the vertical lines of the substrate itself, its more evident on some plates than others, it may well be part of their manufacturing process. I don&#8217;t like it whatever it is.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey04.jpg\" alt=\"KAubrey04\" title=\"KAubrey04\" width=\"380\" height=\"504\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey04.jpg 380w, https:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey04-226x300.jpg 226w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A whole plate tintype. I really liked this one.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey051.jpg\" alt=\"KAubrey05\" title=\"KAubrey05\" width=\"386\" height=\"504\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3384\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey051.jpg 386w, https:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey051-229x300.jpg 229w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another whole plate tintype. Kirsteen was interested in several aspects of wetplate but also with the long exposures the possibility to add movement\/double exposure on the plate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey031.jpg\" alt=\"KAubrey03\" title=\"KAubrey03\" width=\"382\" height=\"504\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey031.jpg 382w, https:\/\/fourtoes.co.uk\/iblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/KAubrey031-227x300.jpg 227w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 382px) 100vw, 382px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In all a creative and useful session.
