As part of the launch of Manchester\u2019s Centre for Gothic Studies and their Gothic Manchester Festival<\/a> I’ll be shooting wet plate portraits on Saturday 26th October at MMU.<\/p>\n

Quarter plate ambrotypes and tintypes will be available. Choose between a straight portrait or something a little… different! Bring a costume, bring a prop, bring an idea.<\/p>\n

Spaces are strictly limited to 20 throughout the day, so booking is essential. Looks like a great week of events.<\/p>\n

Convened by Dr Linnie Blake and Dr Xavier Aldana Reyes<\/strong><\/p>\n

“October sees the launch of Manchester\u2019s Centre for Gothic Studies \u2013 the first of its kind in England. To celebrate the occasion we will be hosting a range of events and activities from the dark side \u2013 each designed to showcase Manchester\u2019s Gothic dimensions during the week before Halloween (21st \u2013 27th). The festival is part of the IHSSR\u2019s wider research programme \u2018Humanities in Public\u2019, which starts in early October with a series of public lectures on Contemporary Gothic.<\/p>\n

There will be readings from Gothic writers, a ghost hunt at haunted Ordsall Hall, a tour of Monstrous Manchester, a zombie-themed pub-quiz, tours of architectural hotspots like the John Rylands library and the Town Hall, a lamp-lit walk through the Gothic highlights of the Manchester Art Gallery, creative writing workshops, a double-bill of horror at Cornerhouse and a series of academic papers and symposia. Manchester is teeming with gothic architecture, goth bands, gothic events and gothic experts, and has even been the setting of horror films such as The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue (Jorge Grau, 1974). Gothic Manchester will capitalise on these myriad cultural influences by bringing together a series of events dedicated to turning the city into a hub of gothic activity.”<\/p>\n

All events are ticketed and MOST are completely free.<\/p>\n
