Acquaintance and collections

I picked up an ebay item last week from Janet, who turned out to be a fellow collector. We got chatting as you do when you have a similar interest, and she mentioned her collection was in storage but had a few pieces that hadn’t sold for whatever reason and would I be interested? I’m always interested, of course.

This is the original item I picked up, I had thought it was a standard enlarged portrait/print. Having now taken it out of its dirty glazed frame for cleaning it now looks more like a pencil drawing or a drawn over engraving. Signed by R? Matthews

These lovely half plates (dry) were also offered by Janet. Interiors are always of interest. Steph will have fun identifying the contents…

A lovely little ambrotype.

And then on Monday these arrived in the post at work. Four Gem tintypes.

This first one is not your normal tintype/ferrotype. It seems to have been made on some sort of metal “foil”. It also has a rainbow reflectance to it unlike the dull varnish of the others. Any ideas?
