It’s World Pinhole Photography Day, so I thought I’d try out that Intrepid 5×4 pinhole lens and camera.
It’s estimated at 150mm and an aperture of f280. I loaded four sheets of Foma 100. I shot three with the pinhole lens with 18 minute exposures, allowing for reciprocity failure. I had planned on going out with the camera but I’m still feeling a little unenergetic after that chest infection. So I just messed about in the studio.
After I made this quick print I managed to drop the negative into the drain sink thus damaging it 🙁
The other two negatives showed the pinhole at 150mm wasn’t as wide as I expected. Strange to have a ground glass you can’t actually use, you expect it with just a box pinhole camera.
I’m still unsure about pinhole photography. I can see the benefit of easy access etc but don’t think I’d waste more 5×4 film on it. Maybe just paper negs from now on. I have seen some lovely examples of pinhole work but not with anything I do. I guess it’s another tool in the tool box. Although I prefercthe results from the pinhole camera I have in Portugal compared to this Intrepid camera version. Its way too soft for me.
And whilst I was at it, I 3D printed a lens panel for the Gandolfi 5×4.
The first print had an issue with left to right movement, so I reprinted with an internal ring to secure it.
The second 3D lens panel worked perfectly. F11 at 1/6 on Foma 100.
A quick enlargement onto 12×16 inch Ilford SemiMatt FB paper.
