As thick as thieves…literally.

This is what the door to your studio should NOT look like.

Had a text from John yesterday morning “We’ve had a break in”, just those words alone was enough to make me feel sick, let alone my over active imagination to what extent of damage and loss we had suffered.

This resulted in the quickest and slowest drive to Manchester……quick as I put my foot down and slow as in my mind was doing overtime……trying to think what, if anything, they had left untouched. You hear so many nightmare stories of break ins where after getting want they want they proceed to smash everything else and make a right mess of your property.

I arrived before John and met Mark the building manager, he lets me know seven units have been broken into but he has no idea what might have gone from our studio. By now I was feeling pretty sick with nerves……The door was in pieces from where they’d crowbarred their way in. What did I find….everything. They hadn’t taken a thing, nothing, nada. They even broke into our lens cabinet and took…..nothing???

They were obviously after stuff they could shift easily and had no idea what they were looking at. Imagine breaking into a studio and finding a load of old wooden cameras, then breaking into a locked unit and finding old brass lenses….they must have been well baffled and had no idea the worth of its contents.
I’m just thankful they didn’t then smash all the lenses and cameras, just for the fun of it, as that would have been even more devastating.

They did take items from other units ie sports goods and electric guitars.

John and myself count ourselves very very lucky indeed and at this moment in time a solid steel security door is being fitted just in case.

We’ll then be a taking a full inventory for future reference. And a word of advice, there is no such thing as too much security.
